Start Date : Apr 01, 2014

Location : Nubra
Highest Point :

The people of this village slept in Pakistan one night and found themselves in India the next morning. That was when India captured Turtuk in the 1971 war. Since then, Turtuk and its surrounding region have been fiercely guarded so much that travellers were allowed only till Hunder in Nubra till last year. But last year for the first time, we have been taking travellers beyond Hunder through dramatically changing landscape. The Shyok gurgles along for some time and then the valley becomes a gorge. As the river goes out of sight, the road snakes through a vast stretch of monolithic rocks. After driving for another hour, the valley opens up and the river, dressed in shades of blue and aquamarine, gives you company. The area ahead is part of Baltistan, which was earlier a part of Pakistan.  Camp by the Shyok River or Turtuk brook, live with the Balti people in their homes or opt for a guesthouse.  Sample Balti cuisine and go for treks. But beware of where you tread, for you might just land in Pakistani territory! We will of course show you where Pakistan is and help you capture the same and more including looming glaciers in memory and film.
