MKCC 2015

Manali-Khardungla Cycling Championship 2015
The world saw its first organised bicycle race at Arc de Saint-Cloud, Paris on May 31, 1868. Expatriate Englishman, James Moore won the race on a wooden bicycle with iron tyres! Bicycling and cycle racing have come a long way since. Famous international racing events like Tour de France, Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a España have led to a surge in the sport’s popularity around the globe. Even as cycling catches up in India as a fitness sport and a preferred travel medium, stage racing events here are still few and far between. With the Manali-Khardungla Cycling Championship, we aim not only to popularise cycling as a sport but also to create a racing event that puts India firmly on the world’s cycling circuit. The route has been chosen for its unparalleled beauty, high adventure quotient and popularity with travellers across the world. Yes! You will ride the World’s Highest Highway!

MKCC 2015
After the successful Inaugural Edition in July 2014, Northern Escapes and Cycling 4 Change take great pleasure and pride in announcing the Second Edition of the Manali-Khardungla Cycling Championship, scheduled from 25th July to 4th August, 2015.

Route
The Manali-Leh highway stretches over 500 km of predominantly paved roads, with stretches of sand, gravel and rocky terrain thrown in for good measure. The highway will also take you across several passes, three of them being higher than 16,500 ft. The Manali-Khardungla Cycling Championship is a journey of rigorous ascents and heart stopping descents even as the incredible terrain and exotic vistas beckon you along the way. The Open starts from the alpine forests and meadows of Manali, extends towards the deep valleys of Lahaul across Rohtang, continues towards the vast plains of Sarchu before entering Ladakh. The race culminates at Khardungla, the world’s highest motorable pass.

Flag off: 26th July 2015
